She was very creative and enjoyed writing poetry, refinishing antique furniture, canning the vegetables from her garden, knitting, and other various arts and crafts. Shirley and Floyd both loved camping and many summers were spent camping in the Adirondacks with their three children and later with their grandchildren.
Later in her life, Shirley attended Monroe Community College where she took several classes in interior design. Shirley loved all her family, but especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was ever present at their ball games, dance recitals, graduations, birthday parties, and holidays. Shirley often traveled to Florida where she also loved spending time with her son and daughter and grandchildren.
